How Scatter handles your data
Scatter Desktop is built to keep approvals, keys, and identities close to you. This page explains what we collect, what stays on your device, and how you can control data that touches our services.
Scope and ownership of data
This policy covers Scatter Desktop, official bridges, and sites under the get-scatter.org domain. It does not extend to third-party dapps or networks you connect to through Scatter; review their policies before approving requests.
You own your keys. Scatter stores private keys locally, encrypted with the password you set. Keys are never transmitted to us.
You decide what leaves the app. Approvals you grant to dapps are signed on your device; only signatures and the minimal data needed for the transaction are shared with the requesting app or chain.
What we collect (and what we avoid)
Scatter is designed to minimize data collection. The only information we process is what we need to keep the service secure, improve stability, and respond to your requests.
We may collect
- Basic device metadata (OS version, app version) to debug crashes and improve compatibility.
- Aggregated, anonymized usage metrics when analytics is enabled, such as feature adoption or error frequency.
- Support correspondence you send to us (email content, attachments, and reply history).
We avoid collecting
- Private keys, recovery phrases, or raw signatures.
- Full account histories or balances tied to your identity.
- Personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it for support.
Wallet data and local storage
Scatter keeps sensitive data local. We encourage hardware wallets for an extra layer of protection.
Local & encrypted
- Keys are encrypted at rest using the password you provide.
- Approvals and contact records stay within the desktop application database.
- Hardware wallet bridges keep private keys on the hardware device; Scatter never accesses them directly.
Your controls
- Reset the app to remove locally stored accounts and permissions.
- Revoke dapp permissions from within the app if you no longer trust a connection.
- Keep backups of your keys or hardware devices; Scatter cannot recover keys for you.
Analytics, telemetry, and cookies
We keep analytics lightweight and optional. You can opt out without affecting your ability to use Scatter Desktop.
Analytics defaults
- Scatter may use privacy-conscious analytics to understand stability and feature adoption.
- Metrics are aggregated and do not include wallet contents or raw transaction data.
- You can disable analytics in your operating system firewall or by blocking telemetry endpoints.
Website cookies
- Our site may use Yandex Metrica for traffic insights and performance.
- Cookies from analytics are used to improve the site experience and are not tied to wallet data.
- You can block or clear cookies in your browser. Do Not Track signals are respected where supported.
Data sharing and third parties
We only share data when it is necessary to operate the service or comply with the law.
When sharing may occur
- Service providers that help us deliver updates, security checks, or analytics are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal compliance, such as responding to valid law enforcement requests, where applicable.
- Business transfers (e.g., merger or acquisition) with notice and continued protection standards.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
- We do not provide third parties with access to your private keys or unencrypted wallet data.
- We do not allow third parties to advertise or retarget based on wallet usage.
Retention, security, and your rights
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes stated here. You can request changes or deletion of any personal data you provide directly to us.
Retention
- Support emails and related records are retained for as short a time as operationally necessary.
- Aggregated analytics may be stored longer because they do not identify individuals.
- Backups follow standard rotation and are encrypted at rest.
Your rights
- Request a copy, correction, or deletion of personal data you shared with us.
- Opt out of analytics and non-essential cookies at any time.
- Withdraw consent for optional features that rely on personal data.
Security
- We use encryption in transit and at rest for any data stored off-device.
- We monitor releases for vulnerabilities and ship security updates when needed.
- Your role: maintain strong passwords, keep backups, and verify download sources.
